Rennes is a cultural capital and the city has an opera, concert halls and theaters. In addition, it hosts an annual film festival and internationally known rock festival. The student population of the city is around 60,000.

Rennes Institut d'Etudes Politques (IEP) takes a pluri-disciplinary approach to the academic program to provide a solid grounding in general culture, allowing students to choose from a wide range of professions upon graduation. One can take a variety of classes at IEP and internships are also available.
